Text to Speech

A friend was asking me today about text-to-speech converters and voice synthesis so I figured I would throw this out to you guys. It’s a link I found for an AT&T Labs voice synthesis project. It’s limited to non-commercial uses and has a 300 character limit, but it’s useful for a multitude of other things still. I used it for all the intro voices for my now-defunct podcast (SJS) but you could use it to…

  • Crank call your ex-girlfriend. Make her think she needs to go in for Herpes Simplex XII testing.
  • Create custom .wav files for app or environment development.
  • Make a loop of someone going “Wazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzup” and fill your friend’s iPod with nothing but that file over and over and over.

What other uses can you come up with?
